GALVA – Marjorie M. Johnson, 96, of Galva, died at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2018 at Hammond-Henry Long Term Care in Geneseo surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 21 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Randall Swanson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 20 at the funeral home. The family requests casual dress for the services. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, the Parkinson’s Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
She was born July 12, 1922 in Rockwell City, IA, the daughter of Elmer R. and Lena May (Janes) Orwig. She married Morris S. Johnson on March 18, 1945 in Galva and he preceded her in death on September 16, 1976. Survivors include her seven children; Mary Jane Conner of Washington, IL, Karen S. Johnson of Deerfield, IL, John R. (Nancy) Johnson of Springfield, VA, Paul D. (Becky) Johnson of LaFayette, TN, Gary G. Johnson of Altona, Edward G. (Debbie) Johnson of Kewanee and William D. (Ellie) Johnson of Lake Placid, FL, her sister, Verla (Dewey) Stevens of Galva, a sister-in-law, Evelyn Orwig of Galva, an aunt, Betty Orwig of Wyanet, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers; Harold, Dallas and Donnie.
Marjorie had worked at several eateries and businesses within Galva including; restaurants, grocery stores and a department store. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and word search puzzles, flower gardening, stitchery and quilting. She especially enjoyed being around her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
