KEWANEE – Mary Jane Murphey, 83, of Kewanee, died at 11:55 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 23 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
She was born October 18, 1935 in Oquawka, IL, the daughter of Allie Richard and Helen Beatrice (Simmon) Abbott Sr. She married Ronald L. “Ron” Murphey Sr. on May 11, 1952 at the Nazarene Church in Kewanee and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2016. Survivors include her six children; Kathleen Louise Dennison, Ronald (Nickie) Murphey Jr. and Peggy (Tom) DePauw, all of Kewanee, Sherri Swan of Cascade, IA, Wendy Foster of Kansas City, KS and Tammy (David) VerKruyse of Annawan, a sister, Nora Pinnick of Kewanee, twenty-four grandchildren, forty-six great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Allie Richard Abbott Jr., two sisters, Katherine Dwayer and Nancy Regnald and two great grandsons, Baby James and JR.
Mary Jane was a homemaker and had worked at JB Rombach in Neponset until her retirement. She enjoyed the sunshine, sitting in her screened in porch, going sightseeing and especially attending family functions. Her greatest enjoyment was her family and friends.
