Milton Carlson Obituary

KEWANEE- Milton L. “Milt” Carlson, 81, of Kewanee, died at 9:30 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Unity Point Health - Methodist in Peoria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, May 3 at Visitation Church, Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Burial will be in Wethersfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Visitation Church, Saint John Paul II Parish or to the Wethersfield Academic Foundation.

He was born May 4, 1936 in Kewanee, the son of Einar and Katherine (Smith) Carlson. He married Mary F. Huber on February 27, 1960 in Kewanee. Survivors include his wife of Kewanee, a daughter, Susan Colgan of Kewanee, a sister, Kathy (Jim) Glover of Holden, MO and a granddaughter, Katherine (Joey) Martinez. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.

He graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1954 and from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelors degree in Education and had also did additional course work at Northern Illinois, Western Illinois and Illinois State Universities. He was teacher at Wethersfield Junior High for 35 years and had also coached track, basketball and football. He was a member of Visitation Church, Saint John Paul II Parish where he had been a lector, usher and money counter. He was also a member of the Kewanee Elk’s, Knights of Columbus, a social member of the Kewanee VFW and American Legion and had been a member of the Kewanee Black Knights and the Jaycee’s. He was inducted into the Wethersfield Educational Foundation Hall of Fame in 2012. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed traveling, golfing and following the Wethersfield Junior High sports teams and the Northern Illinois Huskies, Bradley Braves and the Fighting Illini. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
