GALVA- Norman S. Collister, 91, of Galva, died at 6:20 p.m., Monday, May 7, 2018 at the Kewanee Care Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 12 at the First United Methodist Church in Galva. Rev. Tricia Chapman will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, May 11 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Galva.
He was born July 30, 1926, in Galva, the son of Thomas and Jessie (Speedie) Collister. He married Barbara Anne Robinson on November 30, 1947, in Galva, and she preceded him in death on October 25, 2015. Survivors include five sons; Robert (Jennifer) Collister, Russell (Carol) Collister and Keith (Teri) Collister, all of Galva, Marshall Collister of Tremont, IL and Phillip Collister of Owings Mills, MD, two daughters; Linda (John) Coon of Morton, IL and Janet (Paul) Estes of Kewanee, IL, eight grandchildren; Jen (Jerrod) Williams, Susan (Carissa) Collister, Greg Collister, Jon (Angelina) Estes, Michael Estes and Kale, Chris and Randy Collister, two great granddaughters; Sadie Bolden and Abigail Estes and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Lindbom.
Norman graduated from Galva High School in 1943. He was a grain and livestock farmer in the Galva area his entire life. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galva where he served on many committees and was a member of the Married Folks Class. He was also a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau, National Farmers’ Organization, and the Galva Manx Society. Norman loved farming and enjoyed the challenge of learning new things. He was always happy spending time with the love of his life, Barb, and his entire family.
