Peter Dana Meyer

October 12, 1942 ~ October 23, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old

KEWANEE - Peter Dana Meyer, 75, of Kewanee, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, October 23rd.

Mr. Meyer was born on October 12, 1942, in Nashville, TN to Peter and Danae “Grace” (O’Leary) Meyer, moving to Cass Lake, MN early in life.  He graduated high school from the Cass Lake School system.

“PD”, as he was known to his friends and family, attended Bemidji State University, and then was accepted to the Management Training Program at the Palmer House in Chicago.  He worked in hotel/motel management most of his career, working for Hilton, Sheraton, Holiday Inn and Best Western.  He was the general manager of the Holiday Inn in Peru, IL from 1981-1984.  After decades as a Hotel Management Specialist and Consultant, PD pursued his second passion, teaching. PD was an instructor at Hocking College in Nelsonville, OH.  During his tenure at Hocking College, he was instrumental in developing International and Caribbean Hospitality Management programs.

PD enjoyed traveling around the world, from Hong Kong, Cuba and Suriname to the Caribbean recruiting, teaching, and making friends wherever he went.  He was a member of Hidden Lakes Country Club and was an avid golfer and volunteer for the John Deere Classic for many years.  Pete also enjoyed acting and participated in local theatre productions in both Geneseo and Kewanee.

PD was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary “Lynn” Meyer of Kewanee, brothers, Jim (Judy) Meyer of Rosemount, MN, Michael Meyer of Forest Lake, MN, sister, Monica of Wyoming, MN, sister-in-law, Carlene (Bill) Hebel of Kewanee, as well as, four daughters, Danae Meyer of Bemidji, MN, Jill Theodore of LaSalle, IL, Andrea Meyer of Tucson, AZ, and Beth (Jon) Duttlinger of Princeville, IL.  He also leaves behind four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 25 at Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kewanee Animal Shelter, OSF-Hospice, or the donor’s choice.
