KEWANEE – Phyliss A. Black, 71, of Kewanee, formerly of Galva, died at 9:51 a.m., Sunday, June 10, 2018 at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 13 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Martin Gutzmer will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the services and private inurnment will be held at a later date at LaFayette Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Phyliss Black Memorial Fund.
She was born March 25, 1947 in Kewanee, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Winters) Copeland. She married Herby Ballard Black Jr. on July 24, 1965 in Galva and he preceded her in death on January 16, 1996. Survivors include her five children; Larry (Carla) Black of Princeton, Carol Taets of Kewanee, Danny (Jessica) Black of California, Herby (Tiffani) Black of Arizona and Sherry Blair of Galva, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren with one on the way. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Black and five brothers; Vernon, Edward Nelson, Donald, Snowden and Mark.
Phyliss attended LaFayette schools and had worked as a homecare assistant for the Henry and Stark County Health Departments. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galva. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, playing Skip-Bo and Bingo, listening to Elvis music and especially visiting with her family and friends.
