Phyllis B. Smith

KEWANEE – Phyllis B. Smith, 64, of Kewanee, died at 5:36 p.m., Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.

She was born June 4, 1953 in Kewanee, the daughter of Peter Bernard and Anna Marie (Collister) Coné. Survivors include her son, Robert Henson of Seattle, WA, a step-daughter, Patty Smith-Hovey, a step-son, James Smith Jr., two grandchildren; Cindell Dipple and Dakota Smith and a brother-in-law, John (Frieda) Brose. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Phillip Coné, half-brother, Dale Peterson, three half-sisters; Darlene "Dolly" Peterson Kermeen, Dorothy "Dort" Peterson Brose and Doris Peterson, a cousin, Bernadine Coné and her son, Jeffrey Smith.

Phyllis graduated from Kewanee High School and Black Hawk East with a nursing degree. She had a natural ability to help people and worked as an LPN for 20 years at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg and for the Staffing Difference Nurse Agency. She also had been co-owner along with her son, Jeff of Perfect Stripe in Kewanee. She loved her sons dearly.
