April 14, 1960 ~ November 16, 2017 (age 57) 57 Years Old

GALVA - Steven W. “Steve” King, 57, of rural Galva, went to be with the Lord at 2:24 a.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, surrounded by his loving family.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 20 at the Galva Congregational Church. Pastor Bob Curry will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 19 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Burial will be in the Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Galva Congregational Church or the OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home.

He was born April 14, 1960 in Kewanee, the son of Hugh and Shirley (Cole) King. He married Jill McCoy on October 25, 1980 in Galva. They divorced. He then later married Pam Halsall on July 9, 1994 in Galva. She survives as do his children, Jason (Amanda) King of Eliot, ME, Aaron King (Jessica) of Galva, Conner King, a student at the University of Illinois and Olivia King, a student at Iowa State University, four grandchildren, Bre’Ana, Matthew, Cooper and Kyla, two sisters, Sarah (Donald) Martin and Christine (David) Hoxworth, both of Hartford, WI and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in infancy, a brother-in-law, Jay and a niece, Kayla.

Steve graduated from Galva High School in 1978 and then from Black Hawk East in 1980. Steve’s passion was farming and he felt blessed to be able to make a good living at what he loved to do. He enjoyed working side-by-side with his father for many years and most recently with his sons. He was an active member of the Galva Congregational Church where he taught Sunday School, sang on the praise team, was a council member and most recently the current president of the church council. Steve loved his church and was involved with the maintenance as well as all building projects. In 2010 Steve attended The Great Banquet in Peoria. It was there where he truly strengthened his faith walk. In earlier years, he had coached flag football and was always an active supporter of his children’s activities. He was a GHS Athletic Booster, a member of the Henry County Pork Producers and president of the Galva Rural Firefighters. He had also provided internships for the BHE Ag Production Program. Steve loved spending time with his wife and family at their cabin near Lake Calhoun, fishing, taking walks and tending to the property. He thoroughly enjoyed excavating and being able to make land improvements with the various properties he owned.

Steve was a kind, humble and godly man who chose to lead by example and was a prayer warrior for so many.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who dearly loved his family. He fought his battle with brain cancer with courage, leaning on his faith for strength and never complained about his circumstances. The words that best sum up his life are Faith, Family, Farming and Friends and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
