GALVA – Tony J. Bowman, 69, of Galva, IL, died at 7:04 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in the emergency room at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 30 at the Coon Rapids Methodist Church in Coon Rapids, IA. Pastor Joyce Webb will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the services. Memorials may be directed to the Tony Bowman Memorial Fund. Rux Funeral Home in Galva, IL and Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids, IA are assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born January 12, 1950 in Carroll County, IA, the son of Jack and Velma (Kerr) Bowman. He married Mary Lou Epperly on August 5, 1970 in Glidden, IA. Survivors include his wife of Galva, IL, three children; Kelly Smithson of Kewanee, IL, Brian “B.J.” Bowman of Galva, IL and Heather (Jonathon) Wineinger of Tulsa, OK, his sister, Jaxine (Roger) Petty of Coon Rapids, IA, a brother-in-law, Larry Epperly, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Tony graduated from Coon Rapids High School and attended Iowa Lakes Community College. He worked as a welder for Caterpillar until his retirement. He was quite the fixer upper and was the type of person who would give you the coat off his back. Tony was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan, was a guitarist, a ham radio operator and enjoyed remote control airplanes. He was a car enthusiast and had rebuilt a 1930 “Woody” out of the old gym floor boards from the Coon Rapids High School.
