LAFAYETTE – Van R. Mahany, 83, or rural LaFayette, died at 7:15 a.m., Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 28 at Williamsfield Cemetery. Fr. John Burns will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield. Memorials may be directed to the LaFayette Fire and Rescue Squad.
He was born June 25, 1935 at the family home in Toulon, the son of Ralph and Catherine (Cromien) Mahany. He married Eileen M. VanDeVoorde on August 23, 1958 in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on May 20, 2006. Survivors include his sister, Mary Ann Klein of Williamsfield, three nephews; Joey Klein III, Jamie Klein and Donovan Klein and five great nieces and nephews; Jacob, Isabelle, Gabe, Ryan and Maggie. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Ralph and Van and a brother-in-law, Joe Klein.
Van graduated from Toulon High School in 1952 and from DeVry Institute. He served his country in the Army National Guard. He was of the Catholic faith and had worked as a farmer and truckdriver and thoroughly enjoyed those jobs.
