Virginia A. Peed

KEWANEE – Virginia A. Peed, 78, of Kewanee, passed away at 1:43 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 6 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the services and inurnment will be held in Wyoming Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Illinois Cancer Care.

She was born October 19, 1939 in rural LaFayette, IL, the daughter Robert and Jessie (Hegwood) Tuthill. She married Henry Eilts in 1961 and he preceded her in death on February 27, 1979. She later married George Peed in 1981 and he preceded her in death on November 17, 2002. Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Smith and her special friend, Robert Ensley of Kewanee, three grandchildren, Brandi (Grant) Brown of German Valley, IL, Jessica (Roger) Wheelhouse of Kewanee and Autumn Eilts of Kewanee, with whom she raised, five great grandchildren, three brothers, Vernon “Butch” (Pat) Tuthill and Ivan Tuthill, both of Kewanee and Leslie (Sue) Tuthill of Colorado and her sister, Betsy (Terry) Briggs of Kewanee. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, a daughter, Barb Eilts and a grandson, Ryan Eilts, with whom she raised.

Virginia graduated from Kewanee High School in 1957. She had worked in the laundry department at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for 23 years and had also tended bar at the Shamrock Club for 6 years. Virginia loved all kinds of animals, family gatherings and giving advice and she also enjoyed walking, reading, cooking and baking, especially cookies. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
