GALVA – Willard D. McCurdy, 74, of Galva, died at 4:35 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Kewanee Care Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 13 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Pastor Karen Martin will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be directed to the Grace United Methodist Church in Galva.
He was born March 26, 1944 in Galesburg, the son of Herman and Arline (Kenney) McCurdy. He had been married to Margo Hinderliter. Survivors include two sons, Ryan McCurdy of Galva and Allan McCurdy of LaFayette, two daughters, Deana (Paul) Bersell of Galva and Brandy Crane of Milan, a brother, Roger McCurdy of Galva, two sisters, Janice Goff of Missouri and Barb (Dennis) Roberts of Geneseo, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Willard served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. serving in the South Pacific as a demolitions expert. He had worked as a piece and sheet metal worker at John Deere Harvester in East Moline, retiring in 1997. He had also farmed and operated a used furniture business in Galva. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and hunting and in his early years had been a member of a pool league. He also enjoyed attending auctions and following the Chicago sports teams.
