Anita G. Sherman

GALVA – Anita G. Sherman, 48, of Galva, peacefully went home to be with her Lord at 8:44 a.m., Sunday, July 21, 2024 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

She was born February 12, 1976 in Galesburg, the daughter of Scyrill and Patricia “Pat” (Stevens) Sherman. Survivors include her mother of Galva, her brother, Stephen (Amy) Sherman of Bettendorf, IA, nephews, Sean Sherman and Ryan Sherman, nieces, Makenna Sherman and Hanna Murry, great nephew, Dixon Dockey, members of the Stevens family and her special friends who helped her with her journey; Juana Interial Sturm, Mindi Perkins, Marcy Johnson, Sarah Hann, Teresa Costin and Lelia Interial. She was preceded in death by her father and brother, Richard.

Anita graduated from Galva High School in 1994 and she obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Monmouth College, attended Carl Sandburg College and obtained her BSN at the OSF School of Nursing in Peoria. She had worked as a registered nurse and was currently a personal assistant for Juana Sturm. Her faith was very important to her, and she had been a member of the former Grace United Methodist Church in Galva where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.

In her early years she excelled in tumbling and acrobatics and had gone to Nationals and had also taught acrobatics. Anita enjoyed her cats; Eddie “Ninja Cat”, Orphie, Tiggie, Oakie and Spark Plug and was glad to rescue any animals. Her farm was her passion and she also enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, working outdoors, woodworking and participating in outdoor sports.

Anita was a quiet, honest and kind-hearted individual who always put others first. She was a go-getter and a true inspiration to others. And in her famous word, “That’s ok.”

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, July 25 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Rev. Karen Martin officiating. The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home. A burial will follow at Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to www.foodforthepoor.org.
