KEWANEE – Anni Jakobi, 91, of Kewanee, died at 5:35 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Betty’s Garden Memory Care in Kewanee.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 17 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend the money on your grandchildren, or that you buy your grandmother a bouquet of flowers, or that you take a loved one out to dinner, or just make a phone call.
Anni was born July 15, 1929 in Rosenau, Transylvania, Romania, in a German area called Siebenburgen. She is the daughter of Michael and Rosa (Krafft) Bergel. She married Dr. Richard Jakobi on December 18, 1954 in Linz, Austria and he preceded her in death on August 22, 1998. Survivors include her two sons, Fritz Jakobi of Kewanee and Heinz (Michel) Jakobi of Memphis, TN, her daughter, Heddi (Michael) Sanders of Hermosa Beach, CA and seven grandchildren; Nicholas, Alex, Kathryn, Juli, Spencer, Emma and Tate. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Michael, a sister, Rosa and her granddaughter, Denise.
Anni attended school in Romania until the age of 15 when she moved to Linz, Austria where she completed school, specializing in accounting. Anni and her husband Richard immigrated to the USA in March of 1956. They lived in Oak Park, IL where Dr. Jakobi completed his medical residency and then on to Dixon, IL and White Hall, IL where they lived until moving to Kewanee in 1966. She worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for her husband’s medical practice. She was a member of the Tuesday Women’s Club and the former Midland Country Club. She enjoyed hiking in the mountains, skiing, tennis, sewing and was an exceptional knitter, creating exquisite sweaters for her family. Anni loved to entertain and took pride in serving her guests the most delicious meals. Her European baking and pastry skills impressed in particular. During Hog Days she was known for providing a cool treat to runners at the end of her driveway along the stampede route. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren.
