KEWANEE – Anthony Eugene “Tony” Perkins, 52, of Kewanee, died Thursday, June 8, 2023 in emergency room at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.
Per Tony’s wishes cremation will be accorded and no services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Julie’s Toy Drive and can be directed to the funeral home. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
He was born August 31, 1970 in Peoria and was adopted by Larry and Sharon (Aubry) Perkins. He attended Visitation grade school, Wethersfield High School and Black Hawk East Community College. He was active in school sports and city baseball leagues. He was a member of the Kewanee YMCA Swim Team from age 6-18.
Tony married Julie Marie Gibson on March 28, 2000 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on September 6, 2021. Survivors include his parents and six siblings. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He worked as a contract representative for Menards in Kewanee for 23 years. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid outdoorsman enjoying boating, fishing, camping and swimming. Following the passing of his wife, Tony founded Julie’s Toy Drive to help ensure local children had a Christmas. For the last 2 years, Tony set-up Santa’s Workshop and played Santa for hundreds of children at their home. The toy drive will continue.
