KEWANEE - Avis Marie (Johnson) Skinner passed in her home surrounded by loved ones on December 14, 2022 at 5:15 a.m. after succumbing to her lengthy fight with cancer.
She was born on January 9, 1958 in Kewanee, Illinois to Paula (Kelso) Millslagle and Richard Johnson. She attended Kewanee Community Unit School District schools and graduated from Black Hawk College with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Business Information Technology. For 14 years, Avis worked at University of Illinois Extension, spending time improving the Henry-Stark County 4-H program.
She enjoyed watching movies from her extensive collection, dancing just about anywhere at any time, and playing the occasional hand of Shove-It. Avis is survived by her husband of 22 years, David Skinner Sr, their seven children, Jason Gohde, Jeffrey Hartman, Yvonne Stoner, Marsha Sassman, Amanda Goodwin, David Skinner Jr, and Phillip Skinner, their 27 grandchildren, their four great-grandchildren, and her lifelong friend, Brenda McFarden. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, younger brother, Paul Millslagle, and best friend, Joylynne Wilson.
Avis’s visitation will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, December 18 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
