Barbara Jean Dixon

KEWANEE - Barbara Jean Dixon 71, of Kewanee, died at 8:38 a.m., Friday March 18, 2022 at Scripps Memorial Hospital, Encinitas, CA.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Her sister, Rev. Kathryn A. Harris will officiate. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to services. Barbara Dixon’s ashes will be scattered at sea off the coast of San Diego County, CA.

Barbara Jean Dixon was born on December 18, 1950 in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Aubrey W. and Nellie K. (Humphrey) Harvey. Survivors include two sons, Larry R Dixon Jr. and David C. (Melissa) Dixon and one beloved granddaughter, Samantha J. Dixon, all reside in the San Diego, California area. As well as three siblings, Rev Kathryn A. Harris of Duluth, GA, Donald L. (Carrie) Harvey of Kewanee, IL and Michael L. (Mary) Harvey of Columbia, MO. Barbara has many nieces, nephews and a host of cousins who loved her and will miss her dearly. Barbara was preceded in death by her loving parents and brother, Aubrey (Bill) Harvey.

Barbara graduated from Kewanee High School in 1968, she was a cheerleader and a co-editor of the Kewanite among other activities. She then graduated from the Hospital's School of Radiology. A field that she worked in for over 30 years. Prior to moving to California, she worked several years for Step Ahead Foot Care in Kewanee.

Barbara was a member of Second Baptist Church in Kewanee for many years. She served as Sunday School Superintendent, Choir Director, Soloist, Kitchen Ministry and Women’s Mission Auxiliary. Barbara was blessed with a beautiful voice and loved singing. Other hobbies were crocheting and gardening. What she truly loved the most was spending time with her granddaughter, Samantha.
