KEWANEE – Betty Jean VerVynck, 88, of Kewanee, died at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 28, 2021 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the services and private inurnment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
She was born November 3, 1932 in Toulon, the daughter of Vernon and Wilna (Chamberlain) Catton. She married Walter J. VerVynck on August 4, 1959 in Peoria and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Barb, a brother, Robert and two grandsons and a granddaughter. She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Callicutt and three sons, Walter VerVynck, Jerry VerVynck and Carl Hansen, all of Kewanee, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a brother, Roger Catton of Colona and a sister, Ann Graham, of Silvis.
Betty had worked as a janitor at the former Davidson’s Restaurant in Kewanee. She was also a paper carrier with her daughter Bonnie and did lawn mowing. She enjoyed gardening, baking, mowing lawns, sitting outside and the company of her dog Tinkerbell. She also loved her family and visiting with them.
