Bob Siemers Obituary

Bob always lived life to the fullest and loved to laugh at himself as he had a saying which his wife Sharon always tolerated “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing.” Other sayings he was noted for “Should’ve Taken the Whiff!” “What are the odds of this happening?” and “Obviously pretty good.”

Robert “Bob” Siemers was the first born to Walt “Bud” and Dolores “Dee” (DeBlock) Siemers on May 12, 1954 and passed away on December 19, 2023. He had four children, Lisa and Jennifer, and he later married Sharon (Ouart) Siemers on December 31, 1988 in Davenport. Together they had children Samantha and Marcus (deceased). Bob loved how his girls turned out and was very proud of them all and their families; Lisa (Dan) Forman, Jennifer (Bill) Pelton and Samantha; grandchildren Alex, Izzy, Addy and Olivia. Also surviving is his mother Dee, sister LuAnn (Bruce) Mahaffey, brother-in-law Mark (Diane) Ouart, sister-in-law Mary (Pat) Simaytis and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Marcus, his father, brothers Ron and Kenny, sister-in-law Nancy Ouart and many aunts and uncles.

He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1972 and attended Black Hawk East in Kewanee and loved reading inspirational books and trying to always improve himself. He loved sports and especially baseball, playing on Legion baseball teams and playing softball with many great friends in the 70’s and those friends he is still in constant contact with. He held Management positions in the grocery and retail business with Eagles, Super Valu, Super America, Woodside Foods and most recently Walmart Stores Inc. which he was a Food District Manager for 14 years and managed Walmart in Geneseo starting in February of 2010 retiring in 2020 following 24 years of service.

Bob always gave back to the communities he worked in, belonging to the Jaycees, Moose, Elks, Kiwanis and Rotary in the Henry County area at different times in his retail career starting in 1970 and for over 49½ years. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow through the Rotary Club. He loved his family very much and he knew his wife Sharon taught him to enjoy the finer things in life. Bob and Sharon loved the beach and the water and vacationed in quite a few beaches in the US and Caribbean.  He taught his daughters and numerous family members to always have fun and laugh. The Santa Clown tradition that started in 1992 and Labor Day golf events and AWESOME FRIENDS that helped shape him grow as a person. These individuals were the BobBearers: John Hughes, Mark Fargher, Scott Yarde, Mark Ouart, Steve Pont, Spike, Joel, Pat S. and Steve (that’s 3 Marks against me) and honorary BobBearers: Mark S. Gar, Bill, Randy Jenkins, Dan D. Jim and Leo and many many more too numerous to mention. Friends for Life and he loved them and their wives and treasured them all.

His biggest goal in life that he shared was not to take yourself too seriously, laugh and push yourself to be successful in life. Bob loved to manage and lead and cherished the thousands of people he was associated with and had mentored over the years in the retail landscape and the 10’s of thousands of customers who he helped over those 49 + years in the retail businesses in Kewanee, Galva, Dunlap and Geneseo areas and lead Walmart teams in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin, he thanks all of you!
