Brian Wager Obituary

SHEFFIELD – Brian K. Wager, 65, of Sheffield, died Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, IA surrounded by his family.

A public visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, March 28 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Private funeral services will be held with Rev. Mara Ahles-Iverson officiating. Burial will follow in West Neponset Cemetery in rural Neponset. Memorials may be directed to the Brian Wager Memorial Fund for a memorial to be established.

He was born July 12, 1956 in Kewanee, the son of Louis E. and Mary Patricia “Pat” (Shunick) Wager Sr. He married Julie Stabler on January 3, 1976 in Neponset. Survivors include his wife of Sheffield, his three children; Heather (Robert) Nimrick of Sheffield, Heidi (Jon) Hornback of Kewanee and Shawn (Kelsey) Wager of Buda, three siblings; Steve (Chris) Wager, Kathy (Dan) Girkin and Chip (Janette) Wager, all of Kewanee, six grandchildren; Austin (Abby) Nimrick, Aaron and Evan Nimrick, Colin and Drew Hornback and Olivia Wager, two great grandchildren, Lola Bogatitus and Emerie Nimrick. many nieces and nephews and several special in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Brian worked as a utility technician for Martin Engineering. He was an avid sports enthusiast following the Chicago Bears, Cubs and Bulls and especially his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was craftsman and enjoyed the time spent with his son, Shawn remodeling his house. He also enjoyed sitting on his porch talking with friends and traveling with Julie, but most of all he loved his family and their time together.
