KEWANEE – Carolyn Ann Reed, 88, of Kewanee, died at 4:34 p.m., Monday, September 30, 2024 at her home.
She was born December 25, 1935 in Kewanee, the daughter of Warren E. and Margaret J. (Keeling) Blake. She married Herbert Reed and he preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Lane (Lorraine) Reed of Kewanee, her daughter, LeeAnn (David) Carman of Kewanee, a brother, John (Carole) Blake of Kewanee, sister, Betty (Danny) Rogers of Mississippi, seven grandchildren; Autumn, Jennifer, Crystal, Angie, Amber, Blake and Katie, twelve great grandchildren; Zachary, Kayla, Abby, Katlyn, Lana, Mary, Chase, Conner, Addison, Adam, Skyline and Aiden, several great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Robert Clarence in infancy, a brother Everette, two sisters, Jean Wittmeyer and Margaret Hogeboom and grandson, David Carman.
Carolyn graduated from Kewanee High School in 1954. She had worked at Carson Pirie Scott, Kmart, McDonald’s, for Wethersfield Schools and the Star Courier. She also sold Avon products for many years and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with those customers. She was an avid bowler, attending State many times and was a member of the Kewanee Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame. She enjoyed gardening, camping by the river and watching men’s golf and Wheel of Fortune. She was also an excellent baking, known for her coconut cream pie and her decorated Christmas cookies.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm., Tuesday, October 8 at Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee. Following the services there will be a time of fellowship and refreshment at 2:00 p.m., at the Flemish-American Club. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established. Rux Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
