GALVA – Charlotte L. “Cherie” Overbaugh, 94, of Galva, died at 6:25 a.m., Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Courtyard Estates of Galva.
She was born November 3, 1929 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Leonard and Cleora (Dennick) Larsen. She married Robert G. Overbaugh on June 28, 1952 at Beloit College in Beloit, WI and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1993. Survivors include her daughter, Teri (Overbaugh ) Pankau of Oneida, her grandson, Matthew (Jill) Pankau of Galva and her friend and companion Josef Novak of Kewanee. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Leonard “Spark” Larsen and her son-in-law, Ronald Pankau.
Alongside her husband Robert, they owned and operated the - Overbaugh Equipment Company – an International Harvester Dealership in Galva that was founded in 1926. Prior, she worked for the Galva CO-OP and for Rex D. Johnson in Oneida. She was a member of the Galva Congregational Church, an active member of Galva Chapter BR – PEO, and was a lifetime supporter of the Henry County Republican Party. Cherie was proudly the first women Chairperson in Illinois, serving on the Henry County Board and was a true patriot. Cherie had a passion for cats, swimming, enjoying the Florida life, keeping an impeccable home and yard, and spending time with her close friends Josef, Nancy, and family.
Funeral services to be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Pastor Marshall Jones officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society.
