KEWANEE - Cynthia (Cindy) Stayte, 73, of Kewanee, passed away Friday, April 17, 2026 in the emergency room at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.
She was born on March 11, 1953 in Sewickley, PA, the daughter of Francis and Leona (Virgin) Szymoniak. She is survived by a son, Tom (Paula) Mattie of Monaca, PA and a daughter, Trisha Smith of Kewanee, five grandchildren, Landon, Alex and Ryan Smith and Hunter and Noah Mattie, a great granddaughter, Stella, a brother, David Szymoniak and a sister, Leona Rose Vronoski. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, George and Mike Szymoniak.
Cindy had worked in her earlier years as a dental assistant. She enjoyed fishing, photography, coloring flowers and doing crafts. She also enjoyed doing word searches, reading and watching TV soap operas, Hallmark movies and crime shows.
Cindy had a huge, giving, genuine heart, an awesome sense of humor and was one of the strongest, most selfless women we knew. She was a tremendous blessing to those that knew her or met her. She loved God, her family and friends, including her homemaker, Terry Rist, and close friend, Alyssa Witte. Also, she loved to spoil her grandkids and took lots of pride in them and her children. Cindy loved animals and pets, especially her sweet cat, Shy. We all truly miss her dearly and will love her forever.
Cremation will be accorded and no services are planned at this time. The family will have a small, intimate celebration of life with friends and family at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
