Daniel Joseph Wood

Daniel Joseph Wood, 42, of Galva and Galesburg, Illinois, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026.

He was born on September 16, 1983, in Galva, Illinois, to Loren (Sally) and Sheri Wood. Daniel was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother, and friend. Above all else, he loved his family deeply and took great pride in being a husband and father.

Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Joni (Rinehart) Wood; his beloved children, Virgil Wayne Wood, Lilly Ann Wood and Turnner Joseph Wood; his parents, Loren and Sheri Wood; his brothers; Eric (Teresa) Wood, Shawn (Shelly) Wood and Jeremy (Stacy) Wood; as well as countless nieces, nephews, extended family members, and innumerable friends whose lives he touched and especially, his canine companion, George.

Daniel was an incredibly hardworking man with a gift for fixing and building just about anything. He was known as the person everyone called when something needed repaired because there truly wasn't much, he couldn't do. He could build anything—from repairing everyday equipment to constructing an entire house from the ground up. He was a master of everything related to wind turbines and AC/DC power, and his knowledge, talent, and work ethic were admired by everyone who knew him.

When he wasn't working, Daniel loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed boating and RVing on the river, camping, fishing, collecting fish, grilling and cooking on the smoker, woodworking, gardening, and always had multiple projects underway. If he wasn't working on one project, he was probably working on twelve. He also loved playing darts, Farkle, cards, and games with family and friends.

Daniel's greatest joy came from spending time with the people he loved. He enjoyed laughing, joking, and gathering with his brothers, nieces, nephews, and family for cookouts and celebrations whenever everyone could be together. His kindness, humor, generosity, and willingness to help others will be remembered by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Albert and Grace Wood and Donald and Dorothy Thomson, and an infant brother, Zachary Wood.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 29 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva followed by a brief ceremony at 6:00 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following the services, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a college educational fund established for Lilly and Turnner.

A Personal Tribute from His Brother, Eric

I will miss our talks about how to fix machines—or really, talking about anything. We could spend hours talking about woodworking, gardening, cooking, and whatever project was next.

I'll miss talking about all the good times and the hard times. Daniel always had a different perspective, being the youngest brother while I was the oldest, and I learned a lot from him.

Most of all, I will miss my little brother.

Daniel's absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his legacy of hard work, generosity, laughter, and love for family will live on.

Daniel will be incredibly missed every day by his wonderful family.
