GALVA – Dorothy Darlene Adkison, 93, of Galva, died at 9:55 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Gardens at Kewanee.
A private funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 1 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Pastor Rebecca Gearhart officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. till noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Galva.
She was born July 12, 1931, in Fortescue, MO, the daughter of Robert and Virgie (Chaney) Elder. She graduated from Fortescue High School in 1949 and was a graduate of Platte School of Business in St. Joseph, MO. On May 14, 1950, she was united in marriage to Carl R. Adkison at the Methodist Church in Fortescue. Carl was called to service in the U.S. Army from February 2, 1952, to January 7, 1954. Following his tour of duty in Korea they moved to Illinois where he returned to work for the CB&Q Railroad. Darlene retired from her administrative role at the Galva Co-Op Grain and Supply Company on May 31, 1990. Her and her husband enjoyed traveling and spending time in the west. They spent the winter months in Arizona for 10 years.
Surviving are her husband and three sons: Stephen (Diane) of Colorado City, CO, Richard of Wood River, IL and David (Jody) of New Berlin, WI. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Adrienne Adkison, Darcy (Greg) Dukes, Jordan Adkison, Tyler Adkison, Henry Adkison and Lily Adkison, great grandchildren; Rowan Dukes, Juniper Dukes, Rian Wemhoener, and Luna Adkison. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Darlene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galva, the United Methodist Women, and the Wesley Weds Sunday School class.
