GALESBURG - David L. Kimmitt, 65, of Galesburg, died at 11:10 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Cremation will be accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held at his cabin on the river at a later date. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the David Kimmitt Memorial Fund.

He was born August 29, 1955 in Galesburg, the son of William and Beverly (Morris) Kimmitt. He married Ronda L. Bouchez on July 22, 2006 in Oquawka on the dock at the Mississippi River. Survivors include his wife of Galesburg, two sons, Joshua (Emily Mason-Henry) Kimmitt of Galesburg and Benjamin (Stefanie) Kimmitt of Henderson, IL, a daughter, Terren (Shane) Fry of Monona, WI, a brother, John Kimmitt of Galesburg, two sisters, Gayle (Jim) Niestradt of Cincinnati, OH and Susan Kimmitt of Galesburg and three grandchildren; Mason, William and Dayton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Wesley “Wes” Bell.

David graduated from Galesburg High School in 1973. He had worked at Butler Manufacturing until they closed and then worked at United Facilities. He was a graveyard shift welder who took full custody and raised three young children at the Kimmitt family cabin on the river. He had a very pronounced whistle that his kids immediately responded to and was well-liked by his family and friends. David was a grill master, who collected fishing lures and rods and reels and enjoyed being outdoors, boating, fishing and playing ping-pong, especially at family gatherings.
