David L. Leonard

KEWANEE – David Lee Leonard, 73, of Kewanee, formerly of Bettendorf, IA, died at 8:20 p.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at the Kewanee Care Home.

He was born December 11, 1948 in Kankakee, IL, to the late James Edward Leonard and Lois Mildred Stark Leonard. David graduated from Kankakee High School and shortly after served his country during Vietnam with the U.S. Army Big Red One.

In 1972 David married Monika Walden and they were later divorced. David worked for many years with various shoe stores retiring from Warehouse Shoes in Peoria.

David is survived by his sister, Nancy Leonard of Hillsboro, IL, his son, Aaron (Kristina) Leonard of Erie, CO and grandchildren, Katie and Liam Leonard of Erie, CO. He is also survived by Helen Park his longtime companion and her children; Matthew (Pam) Park of Fremont, CA, Rachel (Ben) McCameron and her children, Samuel and Cooper, all of Marion, IL, Amy Park of Bloomington, IL and Andrew Park of St. Petersburg, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joyce Chapman.

David was an avid fisherman and gardener. He loved reading murder mysteries, feeding his birds and camping with Helen and her grandsons. Most afternoons David could be seen sitting on the front porch in his rocker or walking his dog, Wallace “Wally”.

Cremation will be accorded and no services are planned at this time. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
