David Smith

CHILLICOTHE – David F. Smith, 69, of Chillicothe, died at 11:52 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2025 in the emergency room at Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

He was born on February 9, 1956, the son of Benjamin F. and Helen Yvonne “Vonnie” (Davis) Smith. He married Rita F. Murray on July 31, 2024 in Marshall County. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Michele and Paula, a son, Matthew, two stepdaughters, Nicole and Kaylee, a stepson, Shannon, his brother, Dan (Shelly) Smith, a sister, Tammy (Jody) Stevens, an Aunt Betty, several grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Smith, his mother, Helen “Vonnie” Bennett and a sister, Tina Hogsett.

David had worked at Valvoline in Chillicothe. He was a “jack of all trades” who was willing to help everyone, and he especially enjoyed working on cars.

Cremation will be accorded and graveside services will be held at a later date at Glendale Cemetery in Elmore. Memorials may be directed to the family. Rux Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
