David R. "Dave" Peterson

LAFAYETTE - David R. “Dave” Peterson, 91, of LaFayette, died at 8:49 a.m., Monday, January 15, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born March 30, 1932 in Callender, IA, the son of Percy and Inger (Haggen) Peterson. He married the love of his life, Evelyn J. Hanson on August 13, 1954 in Callender, IA and she preceded him in death on November 12, 2021. Survivors include his two sons, Scott (Penny) Peterson of Marshfield, WI and Webb Peterson of Westfield, IN, his daughter, Jilene (John) Hergert of Altona, sister-in-law, Carol (Jerry) Mobley of Cedar Rapids, IA, six grandchildren; Mallory (Dan) Brun, Abigail (Matthew) Smallwood, Logan (Jamie) McCoy, Kayla (Michael) Siudak, Karleen (George) Hergert, and Harry (Megan) Hergert, fourteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Phillip.

Dave graduated from Callender High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a dairy farmer in his early years and moved to Galva in 1968. He was a shop foreman at Kress Corporation in Brimfield from 1972-97. Following his retirement, he worked at Tanners Orchard. He was an active member of the Messiah Lutheran Church where he had served on the church board. In his early years he had volunteered with the Boy Scouts and was also a member of the Galva Lions Club and was proud to have been on the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. He loved his faithful companion “Skeeter” and enjoyed vacationing with his family and fishing, camping and boating together. Most of all he cherished the time spent with his family and grandchildren. He was also thankful to be blessed with so many kind and caring neighbors.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva with Pastor Katie Gallagher officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, February 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church.
