Dennis Wayne Kapteina, 70 of Dwight, IL, formerly of Neponset, passed away on November 29, 2025. Born on April 1, 1955 in Aurora, IL, Dennis was the son of the late Charles Kapteina and Evelyn Shelton. He grew up with a strong sense of humor and an easygoing spirit that endeared him to everyone he met.
Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he built a long and rewarding career with Lyon Metal, where he later retired. Known for his sense of humor and love of laughter, Dennis had a remarkable ability to brighten the lives of those around him.
A passionate baseball card collector, Dennis, found joy in the details of the game and the stories behind each card - a hobby that brought him lasting enjoyment and connection.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Angie (Rich) Graham, Broadlands, IL, Mandy Currier, Kewanee, his sons Derick Kapteina, Neponset, and Dan (Angela) Kapteina, Annawan, his Grandsons, Gabe, James, and Isaac, Kewanee. Also surviving are his Girlfriend Barb Lange, Dwight, IL, his brothers, David (Joan) Kapteina, Darrell (Peggy) Kapteina and his sister Donna (Jack) Payton and multiple nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, Dennis has been cremated. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28 at the State Road Community Church in Cambridge, IL where military honors by the Kewanee Veterans Council will be rendered in recognition of Dennis’s service to the nation.
Family and friends will gather to share memories, laughter, and gratitude for the time they had with him.
Dennis will be remembered for his generosity, his laughter, and the unwavering love he showed to those he held dear. His spirit lives on in the stories he leaves behind and the hearts he touched.
