KEWANEE – Dennis A. VanMeir, 76, of Kewanee, died at 6:10 a.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the Kewanee Care Home.
He was born August 13, 1947 in Kewanee, the son of Donald F. and Genevieve E. (Croegaert) VanMeir. He had married Sandra Williams right out of high school, and they later divorced. Survivors include his three daughters; Shelene (Bik) Lee of Lehi, UT, Colene (Dan) Verdick of Elk River, MN and Melissa (Garth) Winn of Cedar City, UT, a brother, Jim (Rita) VanMeir of Galva, six sisters; Carol (Brad) Rodseth of Minonk, IL, Beverly Warnken, Teresa Haradon, Mary (Terry) Shreck, Sharon VanMeir and Christy Mata, all of Kewanee, twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Richard in infancy.
Dennis graduated from Neponset High School and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He had worked as a forklift operator for the Walmart Distribution Center. He was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed fishing, shooting pool and in his early years dancing. He loved his family and the time shared with them.
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 7 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Wethersfield Cemetery in Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
