Dixie Lee Cernovich

KEWANEE – Dixie Lee Cernovich, 85, of Kewanee, died at 3:25 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 31 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Fr. Robert Hensley will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Episcopal Church or to the Kewanee Schools Foundation.

She was born April 8, 1935 in Kewanee, the daughter of Clifford and Opal (Sornberger) Simpson. She married George Robert Cernovich on June 26, 1953 and he preceded her in death on August 15, 2010. Survivors include her children; Dr. Rick (Mary Ann) Cernovich of Sheffield, Randy (Jacquie) Cernovich of Kewanee, Brad (Sandra) Cernovich of Bryan, TX and Lisa Gibson of Bryan, TX, grandchildren; John Cernovich of Kewanee, Adam Cernovich of Elizabeth City, NC, Caitlin (Cernovich) Milmo of Denton, TX, Dr. Tim Pratt of Sheffield, Joey Pratt of San Antonio, TX, Laura Banks of Chattanooga, TN, Bryan Porras of Haymarket, VA, Lucy Cernovich of Kewanee, Miranda Bridgeford of Colorado Springs, CO, Ethan VanDeRostyne of Kewanee, Tyler VanDeRostyne of Peoria, Nathan Cernovich of Bryan, TX, Amanda Cernovich of Brooklyn, NY, Monica Cernovich of Bryan, TX and Travis Gibson of Bryan, TX, Daniel Gibson of Hutto, TX and Rachel Gibson, of Bryan, TX and twenty-six great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Dixie graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1953. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Kewanee. She had been a homemaker and room mother while the kids were in school. She enjoyed playing bingo and bridge, bowling, golfing, going to the riverboat and attending the grandchildren’s sporting events.
