Donald E. Colgan Sr.

GALVA - Donald Eugene “Don” Colgan Sr, 86, of Galva, died at 2:40 a.m., Thursday, August 4, 2022 at his home after a lengthy battle with skin cancer.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 29 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation or the Galva Library. 

He was born during the blizzard of ‘35 on December 14, 1935 on the family farm in Yorktown Township in Henry County, IL, the son of James and Darlene (DeCrane) Colgan. He was first married to Bonnie Kemerling and then later married Deanna Marie Halsall on June 5, 1976 in Galva. She survives as do three sons; Don (Pat) Colgan Jr. of Toulon, Terry (Carole) Colgan of Wyoming and Jeff (Kim) Colgan of Cartersville, GA, four daughters; Jacque Lawson of Davisboro, GA, Mary Christine “Christy” (Fred)  DeFilippi of Bradford, Angie (Terry) Peterson of Galva and Amanda (Dale) Johnson of Kewanee, several grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, a sister, Beverly Carlson of Peoria, and a half-brother Jerry DePauw of Kings, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Colgan, his mother and step-father, Darlene and Raymond DePauw, a brother, Robert Colgan, a sister, Kathy Porter, a son, Dave Colgan and a grandson, Chad Colgan.

Don had worked as a truck driver and mechanic for Livek Trucking and Bell Trucking. He also did snow removal for Bell Trucking. He was a “Jack of all Trades.” And was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Galva.
