Donald G. Gillespie

KEWANEE – Donald G. Gillespie, 71, of Kewanee, died Sunday, March 29, 2020 at his home.

Cremation will be accorded and graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 3 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the family. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.

He was born March 20, 1949 in Kewanee, the son of Ralph A. and Margaret P. (Zablackis) Gillespie Sr. Survivors include a son, Derek Gillespie of Apache Junction, AZ, two daughters, Kim Gillespie of Peoria Heights, IL and Sherry Lindsay of Apache Junction, AZ, two brothers, Leigh (Kathleen) Gillespie and Leslie (Vivian) Gillespie, both of Kewanee, his sister, Patricia “Patty” Emond of Kewanee, four grandchildren; Ashley, Jerry III “Sprout”, Amanda and Camron Lindsay and a great grandchild, Azra. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Larry in infancy, Marlin and Ralph Jr. and his special friend, Diane McIntire.

Donald graduated from Kewanee High School in 1967. He was a self-employed contractor and had worked at Great Dane Trailers and for Kewanee Machinery and Conveyor. He enjoyed woodworking and building model airplanes.
