KEWANEE - Donald Lee Harvey, 70, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at his home.
He was born to Aubrey William and Nellie (Humphrey) Harvey on May 4, 1953 in Rock Island, Illinois and is survived by his children Tyrone, Jerome, Brandi and BriAnn; grandchildren Malikai, Lincoln, Jasmine, Trinity, Amira, Ella and Luxie; brother Michael and wife Mary Harvey; sister Kathryn Ann Harris; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in his passing by his parents, his brother, Aubrey William Harvey Jr., and his sister, Barbara Jean Dixon.
He was a graduate of Kewanee High School, where he was a decorated athlete who participated in varsity basketball, football, and track. He attended Alpena Community College and Alma College, both in Michigan.
Donald served as an Active Duty Soldier of the United States Army from January 1975 to September 1992. He was a Motor Transport Operator serving at multiple duty stations such as Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, Fort Riley Kansas and Germany. He also deployed in support of Operation JUST CAUSE in Panama.
After completing his military service, Donald returned home to Kewanee, married his wife Carrie (Baker) and worked as an over-the-road commercial truck driver for two decades before retiring. He was also inducted into the Kewanee High School Hall of Fame. He loved facilitating fellowship with his friends, neighbors, and family with barbecues and outings. He also loved jellybeans, the Chicago Bears and Bulls, and a great debate.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 5 at the Rock Island National Cemetery where military rites will be accorded. Rev. Dr. William R. Toliver will officiate. Those wishing to follow in procession to the cemetery may gather at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A celebration of his life will follow from 3:30-5:30 p.m., Tuesday at Cerno's in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the family at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, Illinois.
