KEWANEE – Donald E. Kegebein, 91, of Kewanee, died at 9:28 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2021 at his home.
Cremation will be accorded and private graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery in rural Annawan where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
He was born August 9, 1929, the son of William and Gertrude Kegebein. He married Carol J. Fronk on July 23, 1955 and she preceded him in death on April 13, 2015. Survivors include his son, Michael (Brenda) Kegebein of Kewanee, his daughter, Laurie Evans of Georgia, grandchildren; Brad (Liz) Kegebein, Nancy (Brandon) Blackard, Stasia (Chris) Marburger, Jennifer Thomas and Josh (Kayla) Thomas and his great grandchildren; Alyssa, Collin and Sadie Marburger, Haley Thomas, Michael, Alexis and Ashley Blackard, David and Joseph Kegebein and Myla Gray Thomas and a brother, Marvin Kegebein of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carol, two brothers, Les and Billy and four sisters in infancy.
Donald attended Kewanee schools and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950-52. He had worked for Kewanee Machinery and Conveyor and for the Kewanee Boiler Company. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he had served on the board of elders and was a member of the Kewanee VFW Post 8078. He was a motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed doing yardwork, maintaining his home and walking. Donald was a wonderful father and will be deeply missed by those who loved and knew him.
