Dorothy M. "Dottie" (Goosens) Kemerling, 96, of Galesburg, formerly of Neponset went to her Savior in heaven on Friday, September 12, 2025 at the Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born on May 2, 1929 in Annawan, the daughter of Edward and Alice (Van De Handy) Goosens. She married her high school sweetheart Arthur R. Kemerling on February 15, 1947 in Kewanee. They were married 60 years before he preceded her in death on June 2, 2007. Those surviving include one daughter, Becky (Roger) Robinson of Galesburg, two sons, Mark (Lisa) Kemerling of Neponset and Brad (Pamila) Kemerling of Conroe, TX, nine grandchildren; Janelle (Justin) Williams of Oswego, IL, Guy (Billie) Robinson of DeKalb, IL, Derek (Melissa) Kemerling of Neponset, Amber (Ben) Kincaid of McLean, VA, Dr. Brandon (Shyla) Kemerling of San Diego, CA, Aaron (Jacole) Kemerling of Peoria, and Bradley Kemerling, Blake Kemerling and Annabelle Kemerling, all of Conroe, TX and seven great grandchildren; Meila Robinson and Willow Robinson, both of DeKalb, IL, Asher Kemerling of Kewanee, Adelaide Kincaid of McLean, VA, Savannah Kemerling of Peoria, Rees Kemerling and Maia Kemerling, both of San Diego, CA.
Dottie is also survived by a brother, Robert (Gloria) Goosens of Santa Rosa, CA and a sister, Sharon (Randy) Nichols of Waterloo, IA. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
She graduated from Neponset High School. She was active with the Cub Scouts as a Den Mother and Little League in Mundelein and Neponset. Dorothy retired from Hyster Company in Kewanee as an accountant. She and her husband spent their retirement years in Florida and Lake of the Ozarks. She enjoyed golfing, boating, traveling in their motorhome, playing cards and going to the casino. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Dorothy was also a member of the Oaks Senior Center in Galesburg where she volunteered for many years. She was also a member of Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 18 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Fr. Narcis Katambe officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
