Douglas N. "Doug" Long, 63, of Neponset, died at 7:50 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2026 at Accolade Healthcare of Peoria.
He was born November 11, 1962 in Okinawa, Japan, the son of Nath and Shige (Hentona) Long Jr. He married Ronika Shawn Garrett on November 14, 1986 in Princeton. Survivors include his wife, Shawn of Neponset, his children; Abby (Steve) Blades of Neponset, Cheri Long of Neponset, Brandy (Sean) Kellenberger of Washington, IA and Nathan (Samantha) Long of Neponset, four grandchildren; Jack and Violet Kellenberger and Rylee and Lucas Blades and his Bubba Love, Ripley. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Doug had worked as the facility manager for US Ecology in Sheffield for 46 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Neponset and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed antiquing, fishing, trap and target shooting, operating remote controlled cars and boats and nitro-powered toys. Most of all, Doug enjoyed following his grandchildren’s sporting events and cherishing time spent with his family.
Per his wishes cremation will be accorded and no services will be held. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is assisting the family with arrangements.
