Elaine Carol (Sweat) Kenney, 83, of Kewanee, died peacefully at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 24 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Rev. Martin Gutzmer officiating. Memorials may be directed to The Henry County Senior Citizens Center of Kewanee.
Elaine was born on January 25, 1941, in Galva, the daughter of Theodore and Louise (Ringle) Sweat. She married Jerry Kenney in Galva on April 2, 1961. She is survived by her husband, daughters, Mychele Kenney and Mindi Goard, her granddaughters, Meaghan (Derek) Keel and Jenifer (Chris) Waca and great grandchildren, Bexley Elaine and Maddux Scott Keel, Lincoln Charles and Leland Arden Waca; her brother James (Donna) Sweat, sister in-law, Carol (Ray) Ziebell and many nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Galva High School in 1959 and Sterling Cosmetology school in 1960. She was employed for 30 years by Interstate Brand (Wonder Bread Thrift). Elaine was a member of Mavens & Mavericks through the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, sewing and especially quilting and was a member of Prairie Queen Quilt club. Elaine enjoyed monthly quilting luncheons with her dear friends Pat Griggs, Pat Crocket, Marilyn Nelson, Sandy Robinson and Delores Anderson. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and traveling, especially to Colorado, with her beloved husband and family.
