KEWANEE – Emery Dean Thurston, 84, of Kewanee, died at 8:55 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the Kewanee Care Home.
Cremation will be accorded and private inurnment will be held at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 14 at the Kewanee Elks Lodge. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
He was born May 21, 1937 in Peoria, the son of Emery and Ila (Burwell) Thurston. He married Joyce L. Talbot on January 29, 1956. Survivors include his wife of Kewanee, his children; Michael (Pam) Thurston of Watseka, IL, Sherry Currier of Galva, Kevin (Michelle) Thurston of Battle Creek, MI, Brenda (Kevin) Ryan of Kewanee and Daniel (Christy) Thurston of Bremen, IN, fifteen grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and sixteen step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Gaylen and Ruth Talbot, four sisters; Joann, Josephine, Nancy and Janice, a son-in-law, Darryl Currier and a step-great grandson, Braeden Seabert.
Emery was owner and operator of an independent truck driving business for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed going to the casino and loved talking to everyone and especially telling trucker stories. He was member of the First Baptist Church in Kewanee.
