GALVA – Ernest “Ernie” R. Hulstrom Sr., 60, of Galva, entered into eternal life at 7:48 a.m., Thursday, March 12, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria with his family by his side.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 2 beginning with a service at 1:00 p.m. at Galva Cemetery followed by a gathering and luncheon at 1:30 p.m. at the Galva American Legion. Memorials may be directed to his family or to the Galva Congregational Church and can be mailed to the funeral home. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.
He was born December 13, 1959, in Kewanee, the son of Howard and Helen (Wilson) Hulstrom. He married Brenda K. Plummer on March 15, 1980 at the First Baptist Church in Galva. Survivors include his wife of Galva, three children; Natalie Hulstrom of Hennepin, Ernie Hulstrom Jr. and Brandon (Michelle) Hulstrom, both of Galva, two sisters; Sonja (Terry) Shinn of House Springs, MO and Suzie (Dan) Gale of Texas, a sister-in-law, Donna of East Troy, WI, two grandsons, Braxton and Sawyer, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Scott, and niece Vicki.
Ernie graduated from Galva High School in 1978. He was a Bridge and Building Foreman for the Burlington-Northern Santa Fe Railroad, where he spent 41 years doing what he loved. He was a member of the Galva Congregational Church. Ernie loved spending time with his family, especially his wife of 40 years. He enjoyed camping and fishing at Cabin Fever. He had a song for everything and everyone, loved life and never met a stranger.
