Evelyn J. Peterson

LAFAYETTE – Evelyn J. Peterson, 88, of LaFayette, passed away at 11:06 a.m., Friday, November 12, 2021 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 23 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva with Rev. Randy Swanson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00, p.m., Monday, November 22 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Memorials may be directed to the Messiah Lutheran Church. The funeral home will maintain compliance with COVID regulations and requires that all guests wear a mask for the safety of all those attending.

Evelyn was born August 21, 1933 in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Carl and Ila (Swanson) Hanson. She married David R. Peterson on August 13, 1954 in Callender, IA. Survivors include her husband of LaFayette, their three children; Scott (Penny) Peterson of Marshfield, WI, Webb Peterson of Westfield, IN and Jilene (John) Hergert of Altona, a sister, Carol (Jerry) Mobley of Cedar Rapids, IA, six grandchildren; Mallory (Dan) Brun, Abigail (Matthew) Smallwood, Logan (Jamie) McCoy and Kayla (Michael) Siudak, Karleen and Harry Hergert, thirteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Phyllis and Eunice.

Evelyn was a homemaker and taking care of her family was the most important thing to her. She had been a cub scout den mother and an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday School for many years. She worked at Tanners Orchard for 20 years. Evelyn loved the outdoors where she enjoyed camping, traveling and walking with her dog Skeeter. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family; playing games, listening to John Denver, and baking with the grandchildren.
