Francis A. Maertens

GALVA – Francis A. Maertens, 87, of Galva, died at 11:29 a.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at his home.

He was born December 5, 1936 in Geneseo, the son of Arthur and Madeline (Stevens) Maertens. He married Kay L. Swan on April 1, 1956 in Bishop Hill and she preceded him in death on December 26, 2010. Survivors include his three sons; Ron Maertens of East Peoria, Kevin (Patty) Maertens of Kentucky and Tracy (Kathy) Maertens of Covington, IN, his two daughters, Penny (Thomas) Wilson and Jody (Warren) Anthony, both of Galva, a sister, Alice (Richard “Dick”) Strandberg of Woodhull, twenty grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Emiel, his son, Rodney and his daughter, Candy Huffman.

Francis had worked as the Road Commissioner for the Galva Township for 30 years. He was also a 35+ year volunteer of the Galva Fire Department. He was an avid collector of John Deere tractors and enjoyed working on them. He loved his family and cherished the time spent with them.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 6 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Pastor Rebecca Gearhart officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, August 5 at the funeral home. The burial will be in Bishop Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Galva Fire Department.
