KEWANEE – Fredrick R. “Fred” Leggett, 81, of Kewanee, died at 6:50 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, November 21 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Fr. Robert Hensley will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Episcopal Church. The funeral home will monitor capacity limits to maintain compliance with COVID regulations. The funeral home requires that guests wear a mask for the safety of all those attending.
He was born February 9, 1939 in Kewanee, the son of Fredrick R. and Alice (Maxwell) Leggett. He married Shirley Kay Brodsho on September 5, 1959 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on December 25, 2014. Survivors include two daughters, Victoria K. Wallace of Toulon and Sonja (Betty Yarbrough) Everitt of Kewanee, a half-brother, Brad Leggett of Kewanee and three grandchildren; Ryan Yarbrough and Gilman and Reece Everitt. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Fred graduated from Kewanee High School in 1956 and attended Blackhawk East and Bradley University. He was a manager at Caterpillar until his retirement. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Kewanee Rotary Club. He was also a former member of the Black Hawk College Board of Trustees, the Kewanee Hospital Foundation where he was past president and also Midland Country Club where he was past president. He loved roses and golfing and golfed in men’s golf leagues at Baker Park and Midland Country Club. Following Shirley’s death Fred enjoyed a martini, not shaken or stirred just poured over ice and he also enjoyed sitting on his porch with his beloved dog Belle.
