GALESBURG – Gary D. Burnett, 84, of Galesburg, died at 8:15 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2023 at Courtyard Estates of Galva.
Cremation will be accorded and graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 16 at Galva Cemetery with Rev. Martin Gutzmer officiating. Memorials may be directed to the University of Chicago Medicine and Biological Sciences program to aid in organ transplantation. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born April 1, 1939 in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Edgar A. and Bernice (Kelly) Burnett. He married Jean Likes on January 18, 1957 in Bishop Hill and she preceded him in death on February 24, 2022. Survivors include his son, Daniel Burnett of East Galesburg, a brother, Kent (Sara) Burnett of Etoile, TX, a sister, Sandy Dyer of Flower Mound, TX, his two grandchildren, Beau and Amanda and five great grandchildren; Alycea, Vanessa, Haleigh, Audrey and Johnnie and a great-great granddaughter, Nevie. He was also preceded in death by his parents and four brothers; Edgar, Jack, William and Kevin and a sister, Dottie Cook.
Gary attended Galva schools and worked most of his career at International Harvester. Gary’s passion was camping. He served as the manager at the Oak Run campground for almost 15 years. He had a wealth of tractor knowledge and loved to attend tractor pulls. He also enjoyed trap shooting and spending time with his family.
