GALVA - Gary J. Cromien, 81, of Galva, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at 4:06 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2025 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 24 at St. John Catholic Church in Galva. Visitation will be held from 5:00-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 23 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with recitation of the rosary will at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St. John Altar and Rosary Society or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
He was born on January 30, 1944 in Kewanee, the son of John and Arlene (Slover) Cromien. He married Carolyn L. Thrasher on June 4, 1966 in Peoria. She survives, as well as their children, Stacey (Monte) Swanson, John (Ann) Cromien and Steffanie (Beth) Cromien, all of Galva, three grandchildren, Emily (Colton) Moorehouse, Hayden (Aly) Swanson and Jacson Cromien and a great grandchild, Beckett Moorehouse. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dennis and a sister, Susan Galler.
Gary graduated from Galva High School in 1962. He had worked as a press operator at Dixline Corp. in Galva and was a member of St. John Catholic Church. He loved to golf and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs play, but his biggest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
