VICTORIA – George Kirby Collinson, 88, of rural Victoria, died at 8:35 a.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at his home.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 2 at Victoria Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Victoria American Legion. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to OSF Hospice. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.
He was born January 5, 1932 in Victoria, the son of Robert and Alice (Kephart) Collinson. He married Alice Marie VanWinkle on February 3, 1952 in Lawton, OK and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2017. Survivors include his four children; Rosalie Paisley of Galesburg, Robert (Charlesa) Collinson of Hillsboro, TX and Cindy (Robert) Lance and Velma (Tim) Crowley, both of Victoria and five grandchildren, Charles Paisley of Galesburg and Paul Crowley, Timmy Crowley, Jennifer Crowley and Jamie Crowley, all of Victoria. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a grandson and a sister, Maxine.
He graduated from Galva High School in 1949 and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had worked as coalminer with the Meco and Allendale Coal Mines and had also farmed. He was a hard worker who enjoyed tinkering at home and in his early years he enjoyed hunting. He loved fishing in Minnesota and wintering in Texas where he enjoyed attending country jams and flea markets.
