GALESBURG- Harlan F. Nelson, 94, of Galesburg (formerly of Galva), died peacefully at 9:55 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2024, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Pastor Katie Gallagher officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. The burial will be in the Galva Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be directed to The Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva, the Dahinda Methodist Church in Dahinda, or the Galva American Legion Post #45.
He was born September 13, 1929, the son of Frank and Myrtle (Anderson) Nelson. He married Sally Finch on January 16, 1988. Survivors include his wife of Galesburg, a stepson Mark (Mindy) Finch of Aurora, grandchildren; Robert, Tony, and Hailey, a niece Diana (John) Bush, and a nephew Steve Doubet.
Harlan graduated from Galva High School in 1947. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva, the Bishop Hill Heritage Association, the Galva American Legion, and the Henry County Farm Bureau. Harlan was a lifelong farmer and was very proud to say that his family farm had been around for over 100 years.
