Harry Mallery Obituary

LA FAYETTE - Harry Lehman Mallery, 90, found eternal rest on Thursday, April 13, 2023 in the company of his family and friends.

Rux Funeral Home in Galva has been entrusted with his services. The visitation will be held Wednesday, April 19 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A final viewing will be held Thursday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lafayette Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. A gathering will be held at the La Fayette United Methodist Church following the services. Memorials may be made and will be divided between Galva American Legion and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Harry was born on September 28, 1932, the son of Jon and Lavonne (Stutler). He was born and raised in Lynn Township, Knox County, IL. Harry was drafted into the Army from 1952 to 1954 and served in Korea for the 3rd Division 10th Infantry branch. Upon his return he started his lifelong career as a farmer. He married Betty Lou Oldeen on November 17, 1956.

He enjoyed gathering for morning coffee with friends, in past years horse racing, and traveling to Las Vegas with Betty to enjoy casinos together. They also enjoyed watching hummingbirds from the windows of their home. He was a member of the local American Legion.

Harry is survived by his son, Brian Mallery (Tina Hufford), his grandchildren; Cheyenne Mallery-Rocker and Braden, Nolan, and Delaney Mallery, his great grandchildren; Drake, Brijette, and Cayleigh, his brother-in-law, Melvin (Doris) Oldeen, sister-in-law, Clarence Mallery, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty, his daughter, Lori, his parents, sisters, Hazel Bengston and Marie Matusyk and brother Pete.

His perpetual smile, good nature, and generosity will be missed by his family and all that knew him.
