Helen Elizabeth Olsen

KEWANEE – Helen Elizabeth Olsen, 98, a resident of the Hillcrest Home in Geneseo, formerly of Kewanee, died at 5:40 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2018 at the home.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 6 at Floral Hill Cemetery in Neponset. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Senior Citizens Center. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.

She was born June 10, 1919 in Neponset, the daughter of Robert A. and Bertha (Canham) Scott. Helen attended Kentville country school and Neponset High School. She married Irvan H. “Ras” Olsen on February 8, 1940 in Princeton. They lived in Sheffield until WWII. While her husband was in the service she worked in Kewanee at the Shell Plant. In later years she worked at the National Cleaners in Sheffield. Later she worked at Webb City in Florida. Helen belonged to the Henry County Senior Citizens Center and loved to read and crochet.

Survivors include her nephew, Al (Debora) Scott of Neponset, a niece-in-law, Kaye Scott of Sheffield, four great nephews, Michael (Lana) Scott, Timothy (Abby) Scott, Greg (Deanna) Bledsoe and Thomas Bledsoe, a great niece, Susan (Brad) Pestka and her special friends, Rose Moller and Shirley Swearingen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2011, two brothers, a niece, Janet Bledsoe, a nephew, Darrell Scott and two great nephews, Matt Scott and James Scott.
